Dear McGilvra Families and Staff,

I am pleased to announce Ms. Jolene Anderson has been named as the acting principal of McGilvra Elementary for the 2023-24 school year. Principal Anderson appointment is effective immediately.

Principal Anderson will serve in place of Principal Breuder, who has accepted a new role as the principal of Hazel Wolf K-8.

Principal Anderson was inspired by a former teacher to pursue elementary education. In 1997, she received her K-8 teaching credential in California. Soon after, Principal Anderson and her family moved to Washington to begin her teaching career. During her 16 years of teaching, she taught various grade levels in Issaquah and Riverview School Districts and served her administrative internship.

Her commitment to equity and diversity education brought Principal Anderson to Seattle Public Schools in 2013 where she has served the community of Eckstein Middle School. She is excited to return to the vibrant elementary setting where she looks forward to partnering with families and staff at McGilvra, promoting joyous learning for all and continuing the wonderful legacy of Principal Breuder.

SPS will begin the search for a permanent McGilvra Elementary School principal in Spring 2024. At that time, SPS will share next steps with the community.

I also want to thank Principal Breuder for her leadership and service to McGilvra Elementary.
